the article considers the issues of identification and planning of strategic business areas focused on the competitive position of an enterprise: significance for strategic management, McKinsey concept, criteria and concepts of determination of strategically relevant product/market combinations, opportunities for operationalization of criteria, criteria of aggregation of product/market combinations into strategic business areas, planning logic. The author mentions the need for integration of planning of strategic business areas with development of competitive and infrastructural strategies
