International legal agreements on the protection of the marine environment from pollution by oil and oil products operating in the arctic region

In this article, the author reviews the international legal agreements related to the protection of the marine environment of the Arctic region from pollution by oil and oil products. The article discusses the existing international legal acts regulating the protection of the marine environment from pollution by oil and oil products. The objective of the review is a visual and structured provision of international legal agreements adopted in the field of protection of the marine environment from pollution by oil and oil products operating in the Arctic region. The specificity of the marine environment of the Arctic region is that the natural ecological systems of the region are extremely vulnerable due to their low environmental sustainability. Even a small anthropogenic impact causes significant damage to the marine environment. So, unlike the southern seas, it is extremely difficult to deal with the effects of pollution by oil and oil products of the marine environment of the Arctic region, and it is almost impossible to eliminate the damage caused. This article analyzes the main international conventions for the protection of the marine environment of the Arctic region. The novelty of the article lies in a visual, systematic review of international acts on the protection of the marine environment of the Arctic region from pollution by oil and oil products.
