The article proves the influence of income differentiation of the population on the social stratification of society. The list of factors of differentiation of incomes of the population has been clarified due to the allocation of an additional group on the basis of "distribution of the population by quality of work", which includes socio-psychological and socio-geographical factors, which makes it possible to take into account, respectively, the psychological characteristics of the individual and the climatic features of the place of residence when assessing monetary income and household expenses by economic regions of Russia. Methodological approaches to the analysis of the social stratification of modern society and its criteria are considered. A mechanism for regulating the incomes of the population has been developed, taking into account stratification elements, within which principles, goals and objectives, forms and methods, as well as tools for its implementation are defined, the interaction of which can ensure effective regulation of the incomes of the population. The implementation of this mechanism will make it possible to balance the economic interests of the state in the process of taxation of the working population and enterprises, to intensify the development of entrepreneurship on the principles of solidarity of social responsibility, taking into account the development of relevant social, economic, legal and political institutions, which will ensure the growth of both income and the level and quality of life of the population of the country.
