The article analyzes modern approaches to the assessment of professional competencies of journalists of state and municipal media as a component of the effectiveness of the work of public authorities and local self-government. The professionalism of the personnel of the media, the founder and publisher of which are state authorities or local self-government bodies, is the key to a high-quality representation in the information space of the image of the government-the founder of the media, a demonstration of the effectiveness of serving the government to the people. In this regard, the task of personnel work in the public administration system becomes the motivation of the employee for the rational use and continuous improvement of key competencies necessary for further professional growth. In the context of the actualization of the development of new forms of media distribution, the personnel services of the authorities face the task of developing and implementing competency models for the editorial staff of the network media and, of course, first of all, for journalists.
