The article analyzes the main decisions of the state policy in the field of water resources. The necessity of transition from a technogenic type of development to a sustainable one in order to prevent an ecological crisis is indicated. The implementation of the principles of sustainable development with the help of tools and mechanisms of integrated water resources management is proposed, as well as priority measures for the formation of this model are highlighted.
