This article explores legal approaches to interpreting the concept of sanctions with regard to international law and the development of sanctions imposition mechanism in the United States, as a country with one of the most developed legal and regulatory systems for the implementation of such restrictive measures, through the activities of the US executive authorities. Changes in economic relations lead to the development of new legal structures and, as a consequence, the development of the practice of using such restrictions. Thus, the study of the goals and methods of applying sanctions in the United States necessitates their doctrinal assessment.
