The article examines the trends in the modern development of pig-breeding complexes. The strengths and weaknesses of Russian pig farming are identified, the advantages and disadvantages of pig farming in Russia are identified, as well as its opportunities and existing risks. The features of technological processes for pork production have been studied. Changes in legislation affecting the interests of pig-breeding complexes are analyzed. Stable positive dynamics in pork production over the past decades have been identified as the main trends in the development of pig-breeding complexes; the success of the development of pig-breeding complexes is due to the use of high-tech capacities for slaughter and primary processing of foreign-made pigs; production capacity is updated every six months; by the beginning of 2024, automation and robotization integrated into all technical and technological stages of pork production. It is concluded that the near-term prospects for pig-breeding complexes include a transition to domestically produced equipment and software from the beginning of 2026, a short-term decrease in pork production due to changes in legislation that have entered into force affecting the introduction of veterinary drugs into circulation, an increase in pork exports from -due to a decrease in its production volumes in Western countries, the transition to international standards of quality and product safety in the next three to five years, the integration of production and processing structures of pig-breeding complexes.
