The article touches upon the importance of the development of eco-tourism for the sustainable economic growth of the country, tourism is considered from the perspective of an economic category. The most successful ecotourism practices in the world have been identified, the leaders of ecozones in Russia have been studied, which helped to determine the current state of ecotourism and the main obstacles to its formation. The combination of steps made it possible to prepare specific recommendations for the development of eco-tourism in the Russian Federation.
