WORK ETHIC IN RUSSIAN AND CHINESE COMPANIES: AN ECONOMIC-SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS

Haipeng Huang   (Postgraduate student Saint Petersburg State University Saint Petersburg, Russia )

In the context of deepening Russian-Chinese economic cooperation and the globalization of labor markets, a comparative analysis of work ethic is becoming particularly relevant. This study provides an economic-sociological analysis of the work ethic in companies in Russia and China. The objective of the paper is to identify and compare the key socio-economic and cultural factors that shape the work ethic models in the two countries. The research methodology is based on a systematic analysis and synthesis of scientific publications, a comparative-historical approach, and the application of the conceptual framework of economic sociology. The paper analyzes Russian and Chinese academic sources on social and labor relations, corporate culture, and business etiquette. The study finds that the Chinese model of work ethic is predominantly instrumental in nature, driven by the state with the aim of achieving "harmonious labor relations" and enhancing national competitiveness. However, it faces contradictions between the official discourse and the actual practices of intensive labor exploitation. The Russian model, in turn, is characterized by a dualism of formal norms and informal practices, as well as the unique phenomenon of "situational corporatism," where solidarity between employees and management is formed on the basis of a common opposition to external pressure. The conclusion is drawn that the work ethic in both countries is deeply "embedded" in the national socio-institutional context, which must be considered when developing cross-cultural management strategies.
