The article examined various approaches to assessing the social security of the region. The main indicators found in most methods have been identified, namely: poverty level; fertility and mortality rates; life expectancy; average salary in the region compared with the national indicator; unemployment rate. According to these indicators, an assessment of the state of economic security of the Kemerovo region–Kuzbass in the field of the social aspect was carried out. The main threats to the social security of the region are identified by comparing the actual indicators that give the social characteristics of the region with the threshold values. A scale for assessing the social security of the region has been developed, aimed at establishing its level. According to this scale, it was revealed that the Kemerovo region–Kuzbass has an unacceptably low level of social security. In conclusion, measures are proposed to improve social security in the Kemerovo region.
