The article is devoted to the phenomenon of medieval monastic culture in the context of the Christian world view eschatology. The author bases on the theological and culturological approaches to the definition of the monastic culture phenomenon. She clarifies the features of the monastic ideal, which is genetically ascending to the early Christian tradition. Christian eschatology is not the expectation of the approaching end of the world, but it is the eschatology of the transformation of a world that has already been accomplished. The comprehension of death as the acquisition of wholeness and completeness is connected with the Paradise image. The liturgical world perception in the eschatological perspective determines the image of the monastic life not only as a "solution of the social question" (George Florovsky), but also as a way to Communion with God, conducive to the deification of the man soul and body. The monasticism eschatology unites, on the one hand, the withdrawal from the world ("exercises in death") and, on the other hand, the transformation of the world.
