Origins of Russian conservatism: Feofan Prokopovich

the article deals with the question of the origins of Russian conservatism as one of the leading directions of Russian socio-philosophical thought. The main conservative motives in the works of Feofan Prokopovich are revealed. Among the main ideas formulated by Archbishop Theophanes, which later became an integral component of Russian conservatism stand out: the recognition of autocracy as the most adequate form of government in Russia; the priority of the common good over private; denial of the need for individual freedom of subjects; mistrustful-critical attitude to the West and the recognition of a special way of Russia's development on the basis of autocracy and Orthodoxy.
