Ivanovsky textile at the art and inductrial fairs: evaluation of achievements

By the end of the first quarter of the XIX century cotton-printing production reaches a high level in Ivanovo region, finishing technology is improved, the need to find and expand markets is increased. The revival of the economic situation in Russia, the industrial revolution in Western European countries have made it urgent to exchange production achievements. To a greater extent this was facilitated by the all-Russian and then the world exhibitions, which began to be held regularly from the second quarter of the XIX century. The exhibitions had several objectives. The first is to demonstrate industrial achievements in different countries and to assess the overall level of industrial development. Secondly, the exhibition served the commercial purpose of advertising, customer engagement and transactions. Thirdly, the exhibitions were held as a Grand show, festive events, where the artistic element served as a means of presenting production and technical elements. Sometimes the artistic display of goods dominated over the advantages of the goods themselves. However, in general exhibitions stimulated international competition and new achievements in the field of product quality. The development of exhibition activities and the involvement of an increasing number of exhibitors representing a variety of products, required the development of a set of criteria for the evaluation of the demonstrated products. Participation in all-Russian exhibitions and recognition of achievements was a significant incentive for the development of business and an important factor of prestige. The purpose of the article is to determine the main indicators of quality assessment of the exhibited goods, for which the Ivanovo chintz could compete with the products of other exhibitors and, accordingly, receive recognition for their achievements.
