The article deals with the problem of language rationality. The author turns to the works of Russian and foreign scientists devoted to the research of language and its role in the life of people, analyzes peculiarities of thinking in native and foreign languages. According to the research, language is not only a technical means of communication, but also expresses the spiritual essence of the people, which is reflected in their thinking, consciousness and outlook. One of the main tasks of language is the embodiment of mental activity in the communication process, i.e. the creation of new forms of mental activity from itself.
