The phenomenon of loneliness and its impact on the functioning of the family institution in Japan

The article reveals the problem of loneliness in Japan in the 21st century. The authors highlight the characteristic features of the Japanese mentality and traditions that contribute to the feeling of loneliness. The article describes the attitude of modern men and women of Japan to marriage. Within the borders of the topic, the authors describe such groups of Japanese as “parasite singles” and hikikomori. Special attention is paid to the problem of loneliness in old age and the destruction of the Japanese family institution.
