Large-scale and rapid social transformations associated with both local characteristics and the global context cause people to desire and search for certainty in a changing world. The process of urbanization is rather specifically perceived by residents of cities, especially they are concerned about the violation of traditions in the cultural sphere. In our study, we explored the possibilities of unconventional perception of the urbanization of theatrical performance. Objectives of the study: to reveal the features of semiotic analysis, which makes it possible to correlate a performative media text with the broad context of media culture where it works; reveal the mechanisms of the urban component of sociocultural reality, it is possible to understand the role of media culture as a source for the formation of ideas, tastes, values of a person; substantiation of the main aspects of the formation of the cultural space of the metropolis, its principles and the content of modern theatrical art, in which various forms of art-urbanism are consolidated. For the implementation of the tasks we conducted a survey using a semiotic platform. The study involved 700 people. The work was carried out in the period from January to March 2019. The results indicate a problematic perception of the urbanization of theatrical space, lack of readiness to perceive new forms of theatrical performances. The data proves that there is a problem with the use of new media due to the lack of understanding of the technology of the urban process.
