The article presents the results of many years of research by the authors that the type of childbirth (timely natural childbirth, rapid or prolonged birth, cesarean section, etc.) significantly affects the volutional qualities of the personality and the effectiveness of sports activities. Among athletes of the highest qualification, people with a certain type of birth prevail (timely natural childbirth), and, conversely, in the process of a sports career, people with other types of birth drop out (prolonged birth and cesarean section). Thus, the type of birth is, previously unknown, a factor of natural selection in sport. In our research, we tested a method of psychological correction of the consequences of an adverse birth, the use of which allows us to significantly increase the athlete's volitional and motivational qualities. These researches open up fundamentally new approaches and prospects, both to sports selection and to sports training, allowing taking into account the type of birth when choosing one or another exercise for a particular athlete.
