The article presents an analytical review of modern domestic and foreign research, as well as modern innovative developments devoted to the problem of improving road safety. The results of the study, devoted to the learning of the dominant non-equilibrium mental states, considered from the point of view of one of the factors of road accidents, complement the accumulated knowledge of science in the field of road safety. Based on the results obtained in an empirical study, the authors of the article established that drivers who at least once participated in traffic accidents are more pronounced in the intensity of non-equilibrium mental states, as well as in less stable emotional immunity. The authors point out the possible conditionality of emergencies in non-equilibrium mental states for drivers with sufficient work experience having a level of professionally important qualities being formed within the normal range, which determines the need for further research in order to study the psychological determinants of accidents more thoroughly.
