The problem of the relationship of empirical and theoretical levels of science: mathematical modeling in the light of philosophical reflexion

The article presents the history of the formation and philosophical understanding of one of the most frequently used theoretical methods of scientific cognition in recent decades, namely mathematical modeling. (As you know, «direct experiments» in many situations are not always technically feasible and / or morally acceptable). The relevance of this problem is determined by the ongoing debate about, firstly, the metaphysical status of mathematical models, and, secondly, the limits of their applicability.
