The evolution of Chinese etiquette greetings after the Xinhai Revolution

After the Xinhai Revolution, China’s political system and social structure underwent significant changes, which led to an evolution in social culture, in particular, in social etiquette. The ideology of the feudal hierarchy weakens over time, Chinese society begins to appreciate the idea of equality and democracy. In the 20th century, Chinese greeting etiquette, performed in the form of kneeling, gradually turned into greeting etiquette with hands. The author concludes that traditional etiquette greetings must be inherited critically, creating a multi-level modern system of etiquette, combining international practice and national symbols.
