The article attempts to connect the concepts of cognitive resource and cognitive plasticity, explaining the functional redundancy of a cognitive resource by the features of cognitive plasticity. The article shows that cognitive plasticity determines the completeness and speed of the construction of "stimulus representation" and the ability to acquire new cognitive skills, thereby predetermining the characteristics of the cognitive resource. The leading directions of empirical study of cognitive plasticity are presented. The main mechanisms underlying the decrease in plasticity in ontogeny are described and explanations of this phenomenon are given. The role of cognitive plasticity in the functional redundancy of the cognitive resource is determined.
