In this article, based on Hegel "Lectures on Aesthetics", the process of cognition is considered, its first form is sensory cognition, which determines the formation of art as an artistic and imaginative creative activity of a person. This activity is based on the work of the spirit, the subjective spirit, due to the objective-idealistic orientation of the outstanding German philosopher. The stages of sensuality are revealed: sensation, contemplation, imagination, their dialectical connection and interaction. The degree of elevation from the lowest to the highest, from the simple to the complex, is revealed.
