The concept of subjectivity in Foucault's philosophy

Tetenkov N. B.  (Ph.D., Associate Professor, Department of Philosophy and Sociology, Northern (Arctic) Lomonosov Federal University)

this article examines the concept of subjectivity in Foucault's philosophy. The characteristic of the subject and subjectivation is given. The formation of subjectivity is characterized by the practices of separation and the techniques of power that affect the individual from the outside. The process of subjectivation is substantiated, in which Foucault distinguishes two sides — external and internal. New forms of subjectivity constructed by language structures and various Foucault practices are analyzed. In Foucault's philosophy, it is demonstrated on a large material that the formation of subjectivity is not a reflexive-cognitive process, but is fundamentally practical, determined not so much by the power of the individual's own mind as by the social practice in which he is included.
