CULTURAL ANALYSIS OF THE REASONS FOR THE DOMINANCE AND CRISIS OF HIGH CLASSICISM

The evolution of style in architecture is predetermined by changes in the nature of the social, ideological and functional requirements imposed on it and by those new opportunities that open up in the process of developing the social structure of society, its economy, its culture, as a result of scientific and technological progress. At the beginning of the 19th century, the cultural life of Russian society was largely determined by educational philosophy, the dominant idea of which was knowledge and reason. One of the main reasons for the reassessment of classicism was the “spirit of practicality” characteristic of the 19th century, expressed in relation to architecture in the whole complex of new functional tasks assigned to it as a result of the social and cultural development of society. These new tasks began to conflict with the system of architectural and artistic techniques that was developed by classicism.
