The purpose of this work is a philosophical understanding of the changes in the social status of women in various historical periods in relation to the masculine (male) gender regime. Based on the analysis of the views of ancient philosophers, philosophers of the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Modern times, the conclusion is made about the dominance of the idea of the priority of men in relation to women in social relations. The formation of women's gender equality is considered as a dynamic process reflecting the multifaceted changes in socio-economic social relations of the second half of the XIX century.
