THE PHENOMENON OF "FAITH" IN THE PROCESS OF SCIENTIFIC COGNITION: HISTORICAL AND PHILOSOPHICAL ANALYSIS

The article deals with the phenomenon of "faith" and its role in the process of scientific knowledge through historical and philosophical analysis. The problem of the concept of "faith" was considered by philosophers, psychologists, sociologists, methodologists in various aspects and interpretations in historical chronology. Ancient thinkers noted the incompleteness of the justification of faith, the "inferiority" of its statements based on sensory experience and the traditions of everyday consciousness. The problems of faith and knowledge were significantly transformed in the Middle Ages. Faith was understood and interpreted in a purely religious sense - faith in the existence of God. In modern times, philosophy has ceased to support the idea of the primacy of faith over knowledge, but the tradition of their logical opposition has been preserved. The Age of Enlightenment transformed this category, giving it a different place. Enlighteners become alien to the naive belief in a simple and easy way of knowing the truth.
