The novelty of the article is in the culturological critical evaluation of the results of a number of high-tech technologies in the development of human abilities. The subject of the study is their low efficiency, which does not meet the declarations of developers, an increase in the risks of human degradation. The exaggeration of the possibilities of cyborgization and "digital personalities", genetic engineering and pharmaceuticals assigns a person the role not of a cultural and historical subject, but of a "biological" passive object of influence. The theoretical conclusion is the prospects of a constructive alternative: in the development of human abilities, the leading role should be given to updated "traditional", culturally-oriented means of self-development with the instrumental use of the latest high-tech developments.
Keywords:human enhancement, NBIC[S]-convergence, cyborgization, transhumanism, cultural identity, traditional values, personal self-development
