Rational understanding of the etiology of diseases is one of the key problems of medical science throughout its centuries-old development. To solve this debatable problem, it is necessary to rise to the supra-medical theoretical level. The philosophical category of causality can play a decisive role here. The article presents the author's approach to understanding the principle of causality as the essence of etiology, which makes it possible to implement a rational solution to this most important problem of clinical medicine.
