This article reflects the second stage of the study of the beliefs of employees of generation Z about work. The article presents a new questionnaire "The most important thing in work" and the results of a study on a sample of 131 subjects. We draw a parallel with the previous questionnaire (the Meaningful Work Beliefs Inventory, which we tested in the spring of 2023 and highlighted the results in the International Journal of Medicine and Psychology). In the first part of the study, we concluded that generation Z is more hedonistic than their predecessors, but the concept of "hedonism" was considered by us broadly: physical comfort, including a comfortable workplace, the ability to have a flexible schedule, work from home, interesting tasks, etc. In this study, we divided 2 hedonistic tendencies: physical hedonism associated with physical comfort and we introduce the concept “Cognitive hedonism”, a concept that succinctly expresses what the younger generation now wants - getting pleasure from work.
The study has empirically proven that the main value for employees of generation Z is cognitive hedonism. The article reflects the results of measurements of the same parameters for generation X and Y, and we conclude that cognitive hedonism grows from generation X to generation Z, the value of security and stability decreases in direct proportion.
Based on the results of the study, we give recommendations to employers about accents in the system of building a motivational strategy for employees.
