One of the most acute issues of self-reflection of domestic culture at the turn of the century is the question of whether philosophy, art, science, journalism, politics are able to decide in a new way in a situation when they are ready with all sanity and responsibility to reckon with the reality of non-philosophical, non-artistic, non-scientific, non-political, when the reality of God as the semantic limit determines their field of activity. Does this lead to a "dead end of intermediate," demonstrated in Russia at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries in parallel with religious thought, the developing phenomenon of religious painting? The article attempts to comprehend the philosophical and religious quest of V.V. Rozanov. The genre originality, style, and inconsistency of his works when considering the themes of Christianity, the Church, and God-seeking made his philosophical intuitions one of the most original in Russian metaphysics
