The article raises questions about the relationship of knowledge and understanding, the scientific or unscientific status of philosophy in the light of its cultural significance in the modern conditions of the «dehumanization» of the world. Philosophy as the highest level of spiritual culture is losing ground in a world focused on material success. Meanwhile, philosophy has a rich experience of comprehending the material world, its humanization, when a person ceases to be a «fact among other facts». In the conditions of an ethical vacuum, i.e. In the absence of forms of spiritual culture capable of explaining the mass death of people, philosophy expresses the desire for the fullness of consciousness, preserving its historical purpose – to reveal the human in man (V. S. Solovyov).
