The article is devoted to the issues of the positive self-concept of the personality of students, which is considered as a psychological condition for the development of stress resistance of the student’s personality. Theoretical approaches to the analysis of the essence and structure of a person’s self-concept are revealed. Its role is shown in terms of the patterns of age-psychological development of the individual at the stage of studying at a university. The regulating and adapting functions of the self-concept are revealed. An important component of the self-concept is the self-esteem of the individual, which acts as a necessary internal condition for the regulation of the behavior and activity of the individual. Stress resistance is a multicomponent formation of a student’s personality, ensuring the individual’s adaptation to emotionally significant situations during the process of studying at a university. It is shown that the formation of stress resistance of an individual, which ensures the choice of effective methods of stress-overcoming behavior, is associated with a positive self-concept. The essence, features and structural components of the positive self-concept of students are described, which acts as a factor in self-development, self-improvement, self-government, self-regulation and self-actualization of students in the learning process. The leading psychological conditions for the formation of a positive self-concept as a factor in the development of stress resistance of a student’s personality are the development of self-understanding, self-confidence and emotional stability.
