The relevance of the research topic is due to the fact that the need to protect mental health and pay attention to one's own emotional state is increasingly expressed in the social space. Not only employees of the field of psychology, but also students and schoolchildren are now getting acquainted with the concepts of emotional intelligence, and doctors of therapeutic and surgical profile pay attention to emotional disorders caused by acute systemic or chronic disease. Examples of such pathologies may be the period of post-traumatic illness after a massive military injury or emotional lability caused by thyrotoxicosis. That is why the study of ways to influence the cerebral cortex and the identification of techniques that can stabilize psychoemotional lability are important and relevant. The purpose of the study is to identify and highlight the cluster aspects of overcoming stressful situations using the psychologically interactive methodology of art therapy. Methods (tools): retrospective and comparative analysis of data from scientific and bibliographic sources. Results: it is shown that: 1) Art therapy is one of the effective ways to overcome stress due to the simplicity and interactivity of use; 2) the Russian and foreign (in this case, American) doctrine of using art therapy to work with stress have differences, the main of which is the concentration on the presence of a problem (domestic theory) and the use of art therapy as means of overcoming it and using art therapy to prevent the formation of a psychological problem (psychological and therapeutic theory of the USA); 3) the success of using art therapy depends on the flexibility of the individual patient's consciousness and his attitude to positive conscious transformation. Main conclusions: the method of art therapy can be used as an optimal psychological tool for overcoming stress.
