The authors of the article investigate the phenomenon of literature in the lens of humanitarian cognition and receptive aesthetics. In this direction, an original interpretation of the social conditionality of literary works is proposed, which do not pretend to be a rigid connection between meaning and the work for a particular reader, but on the contrary, practice socially conditioned reading. The article solves two main tasks: the first is that a literary work is both a product of creative self–awareness, and also a textual phenomenon in cognition, which makes it possible to recognize the internal and external bearer of humanitarian knowledge; the second is how the production of literature socially and aesthetically determines the "horizon of expectation" of the reader.
Keywords:literature, the image of the knowable, self-awareness, human, receptive aesthetics, horizon of expectation
