The article deals with the problem of the development of personal identity in adolescence in foreign and domestic psychology. The analysis of approaches to the consideration of the definition, types, and structural components of personal identity is presented. Foreign studies have shown the structural structure of personal identity; its hierarchical relationship with social identity, nonlinear and uneven development and formation during life through overcoming identity crises in the direction of progress and regression. Personal identity can be classified on various grounds (by the presence or absence of an identity crisis, strength and ability to make decisions and use defensive strategies).
In Russian studies, the age aspect of personal identity is revealed in detail. The research presents the factors of development and its structural components; content, value and evaluation parameters; manifestations at different ages. Personal identity is mediated by the experiences of adult evaluation, self-esteem in older preschoolers, and the attitude towards grades of younger schoolchildren. The article on adolescence highlights the structure of personal identity, in which involvement, control, and risk-taking are highlighted. Indicators of this phenomenon in adolescents are self-awareness, adequacy of self-esteem, differentiation of personal identification, development of social roles, resilience. The formation of a holistic personal identification occurs in connection with autobiographical events.
