The article examines the patterns of development of mythology dedicated to V.I. Lenin (Leniniana) and I.S. Stalin (Staliniana), reflected in the works of Russian writers and painters. Writers and artists of the early Soviet era, being part of the Russian people who committed the socialist revolution, reflected in their work the popular ideas of a bright future, which was personified by socialism. In the face of a lack of understanding of how to build a new society, the people have a need for a leader who knows this path and will lead the people. V.I. Lenin and I.S. Stalin became such leaders for the people. Leniniana became part of the state ideology, combining historical mythology and history into a single stream of ideas about the leader. Following Leniniana, Staliniana emerged as a reflection of the new era of building a socialist state. At the same time, almost all the ideas about the leader that related to Lenin were preserved in Stalinism. This was due, firstly, to the already established mythology of chiefdom, and secondly, to the preservation of the same goals and objectives that the people faced during Lenin's lifetime. Lenin and Stalin appeared in the images of prophets and cultural heroes creating a New society.
