THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ATTACHMENT TYPES AND CPTSD SYMPTOMS IN DOMESTIC VIOLENCE VICTIMS

Redyuk Anna   (assistant of the social and pedagogical psychology department, Francisk Skarin Gomel State University )

Purpose: People who have been exposed to violence in close relationships for a long time may develop symptoms of complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). Insecure attachment styles are predictors of trauma and impede recovery. The purpose of this study is to determine the nature of the correlation between attachment style and CPTSD symptoms in victims of domestic violence. To discuss the prospects for treating CPTSD using attachment theory. Methods: The study was conducted using the International Trauma Questionnaire (ITQ) and the Experience of Close Relationships Questionnaire (ECR-R). The respondents were 143 people aged 18 to 61 years with experience of domestic violence. The methods used were descriptive analysis, testing the normality of variables using the Kolmagorov-Smirnov criterion, and Spearman's correlation analysis. Results: It is shown that the severity of CPTSD symptoms is positively associated with the severity of insecure attachment types - avoidant and ambivalent. The avoidance scale is associated with both symptoms of self-organization disorder and PTSD symptoms. The ambivalence scale in attachment relationships is significantly associated with symptoms of self-organization disorder, but not with PTSD symptoms. Conclusions: In victims of domestic violence, insecure attachment types are significantly positively associated with CPTSD symptoms, which are better described by symptoms of "self-organization disorder" than by classic PTSD symptoms. Scope of application of results: The results are applicable in the process of providing crisis and rehabilitation psychological assistance to victims of domestic violence.
