FEATURES OF VESTIBULAR FUNCTION IN CHILDREN WITH GRAVITATIONAL INSECURITY

Nikolaeva Natalya Olegovna  (Postgraduate student; Department of Age Psychology and Family Pedagogy; A.I. Herzen Russian State Pedagogical University, Saint Petersburg)

The article presents the results of an instrumental study of vestibular function in children with signs of gravitational insecurity and children without sensory disorders. The presence of gravitational insecurity was revealed using an author's questionnaire and an examination of children by an occupational therapist. The study involved 62 children aged 2 to 12 years. Instrumental examination of vestibular function included examination of cervical vestibular myogenic evoked potentials and examination of the duration of post-rotational nystagmus using oculography. It was assumed that the results would be related to manifestations of gravitational insecurity. A significant relationship was established between the manifestations of gravitational insecurity only with the duration of post-rotational nystagmus. The group of children with gravitational insecurity is characterized by a significantly reduced duration of post-rotational nystagmus compared with the control group. It is shown that signs of gravitational insecurity may be the result of insufficient formation of the vestibulocular reflex. Practical recommendations for working with children with gravitational insecurity are offered.

Keywords:gravitational insecurity, children, post-rotational nystagmus, cervical vestibular myogenic evoked potentials, vestibulocular reflex.
