THE PROBLEM OF MERCY IN THE ETHICS OF I. KANT

Piontkevich L. Y.  (Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor, National Research University "MEI", Russia, Moscow )

Gusarova M. N.  (Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor, National Research University "MEI", Russia, Moscow )

The authors of the article analyze the definition of mercy given by I. Kant in the "Metaphysics of Morals", which arouses enduring theoretical interest, despite the many studies of Kantian ethics. In particular, the idea is substantiated that a person who deservedly suffered deprivation in Kant's ethical system could not count on help and support, since mercy was related to morally neutral actions. The authors insist that I. Kant offers a more rational approach to the justification of mercy, based to a greater extent on respect for laws and rules than on emotional and sensory perception.

Keywords:mercy, duty, reason, virtue, right, morality, duty of beneficence, duty of love for people
