The article provides a general overview of the works and professional results of Jean-Etienne Dominique Esquirol in the context of the development of modern correctional psychology through the prism of a socio-cultural approach. Special attention is paid to the criteria of personal development of people with disabilities from the point of view of the ICF (International Classification of Functioning).
