REALISM AND RECONSTRUCTION: A STUDY OF THE TEXTURE OF OIL PAINTING AND GEOMETRIC COMPOSITION

Yang Xiaoyao   (Saint Petersburg State University)

The article explores the synthesis of traditional realistic oil painting techniques and the principles of geometric composition in art. The introduction analyzes the historical and artistic context: the influence of the Russian academic school, the monumental tradition of fresco painting, the emergence of modern materials, and the relevance of oil painting and geometry in public art practice. The main part examines (1) innovations in oil painting techniques—from transparent glazing to impasto brushstrokes and the use of palette knives, as well as the symbolic role of texture; (2) the evolution of geometric composition under the influence of Cubism and Constructivism—form structure, color planes, and modular logic; (3) the connection between technique and artistic education—reflection of these methods in curricula, technique as a vehicle for artistic ideas, and the adaptation of painting methods to the needs of monumental and public art. The conclusion emphasizes the historical significance of the synthesis of realism and geometricity and proposes methodological guidelines for the development of contemporary realist painting.
