This article provides a detailed examination of a significant period in the creative work of the outstanding French marine artist Théodore Gudin. Particular emphasis is placed on his fruitful collaboration with the Russian imperial court, which is the key aspect of this study. The author's main attention is focused on the history of the creation of paintings specifically for the Cottage Palace, located in the Alexandria Park in Peterhof. The significance of these works in the context of the Cottage interiors is emphasized. The study analyzes the circumstances of the acquisition of Gudin's paintings by the Russian imperial court, reveals the motives and features of this significant order within the framework of the cultural ties of the era in question. The subject matter of the master's works created specifically for Russia has been studied quite thoroughly, which allows us to understand the thematic preferences and creative challenges facing him. In addition, the work pays attention to the artistic features of these canvases, including their composition, coloring and manner of execution, which reflect Gudin's unique style. The analysis conducted allows us not only to quite fully reconstruct the history of the master’s collaboration with Russia, but also to assess his significant contribution to the formation of the pictorial decoration of the Cottage Palace.
