FAMILY AND MARRIAGE: ON FAVOURABLE AND UNFAVOURABLE DAYS FOR MARRIAGE IN ALTAI CULTURE

The article deals with the traditions and customs of the Altai people related to the choice of the wedding day. The day of marriage is an important event for the newlyweds and their relatives. The choice of wedding date in the Altai culture is not a random day. The wedding day should correspond to a favourable day, which is determined by the lunar calendar. The month is divided into two periods favourable and unfavourable, the waxing phase of the moon is considered favourable, the waning phase unfavourable. When organising a wedding, the economic employment of the population of the region, fatness of livestock and abundance of food are taken into account. June, July, August, August, September, October are considered to be the most preferable months for weddings.
