The article is devoted to the study of pressing issues related to the development of society through the prism of industrial revolutions, leading to the emergence and use of modern, breakthrough innovative technologies. Special attention is paid to the conceptual foundations of “catching up development”. Features of the formation of modern societies are considered on the example of different countries of the world - Germany, France, Japan. The emphasis is also on identifying the characteristics of the impact of globalization on modern societies. The reasons for the uneven economic, social and political development of society are identified.
