To date, in the minds of representatives of Russian society there is a conditional split due to the society's stay in the liminal period, which indicates the relevance of this paper, the purpose of which is to analyse paradox and antinomy in liminal periods. This goal mediates the realisation of the following tasks: to reveal the content of the terms "liminal period", "paradox" and "antinomy"; to give examples of paradox and antinomy. The material basis of the study was formed by the works of the following authors: I. Kant, A. Gennep, A.I. Volkov, G.F. Hegel, A.N. Ilyin, D. Kahneman, T.H. Kerimov and others. Hypothesis: paradox and antinomy in the society in the liminal period demonstrate the presence of significant differences. Thus, paradox, which is a phenomenon that does not correspond to generally accepted ideas and which exists in spite of objective contradictions, is represented by the "consumer society", which, although it does not realise the expectations of its representatives, continues to exist in spite of it. Antinomy is a cognitive collision existing in reality, in which the main (predominant, dominant) statements or actions are in a mutually exclusive relation to each other. Within the framework of the present work, as an example, we consider the term "society" itself, which is both a plurality and a unity.
Keywords:paradox, antinomy, consumer society, liminal period, initiation, differences, game theory
