This article is devoted to the genesis and development of educational tourism in Russia and abroad. Based on the historical retrospection of the subject of the study, the author clarified the concept of educational tourism, and also highlighted the main criteria of the type under study. Educational tourism contributes to global optimization and better representation of countries in the international cultural space. The type of tourism we are studying is popular due to the demand for services. The main idea is to improve the process, which is related to the specifics of this type of tourism. This is manifested in the provision of new knowledge, a wide variety of educational programs, which are conditioned by various educational tours. The author also examines the sustainable qualities of educational tourism.
