The article substantiates the relevance of the study of emotional intelligence of preschoolers as a factor affecting well-being, success and quality of life as a person grows up. The chronology of the emergence of quantitative and projective diagnostic methods for emotional intelligence of preschoolers has been reconstructed. Several methods of developing the emotional intelligence of preschoolers, which are currently used in practice, are analyzed. Based on the results of the analysis, gaps in existing methods of developing emotional intelligence have been identified. Conclusions are drawn about the need to develop an integrated diagnostic approach. As a possible solution to the problem of developing emotional intelligence in preschoolers, the author suggests the use of pet therapy, a technique that has already proven itself well in adult samples.
