COVID-19 is a viral disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is the main etiological factor of this disease. In modern conditions, the global COVID-19 pandemic has created a new medical problem associated with a wide range of remote consequences of the disease, among which cognitive impairment occupies a special place. The aim of the study is to conduct a comprehensive literature review of modern scientific data on cognitive impairment in post-COVID syndrome and methods for their correction. The article is a review, and therefore we selected thematic literature with its further analysis. The search for relevant sources was carried out in the following databases: MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus, scientific information system Cyberleninka. Cognitive impairment in post-COVID syndrome is a significant clinical phenomenon detected in a significant proportion of patients who have had COVID-19, regardless of the severity of the disease. The clinical picture of cognitive impairment is characterized mainly by attention and memory disorders, often combined with asthenic and anxiety-depressive syndrome. Pathogenetic mechanisms for the development of cognitive deficit in post-COVID syndrome include the direct damaging effect of the virus on the nervous tissue, systemic disorders associated with the body's inflammatory response, as well as psychoemotional stress. Therapeutic approaches aimed at correcting cognitive impairment include the use of drugs with antioxidant, antihypoxic and neuroprotective effects. Prospects for further research may be associated with the study of the long-term consequences of cognitive impairment and the development of more effective methods for their prevention and treatment.
