The subject of the study is the sound of the flute as a symbolic mediator between nature and man in traditional Chinese painting. The aim of the work is to analyze the mechanisms of the mediative function of the flute sound in the context of visual art, revealing philosophical ideas about the harmony of the universe in the Chinese cultural tradition. The methodological basis is an interdisciplinary approach that combines art history analysis of paintings with musicological study of the acoustic features of the Chinese flute, philosophical and aesthetic interpretation based on the concepts of Taoism and Confucianism, a semiotic method of deciphering visual and musical codes, a comparative historical analysis of the evolution of the mediative function of the instrument. The results of the study demonstrate the systemic nature of the mediative function of the flute, combining physiological, psychological, philosophical and cosmological aspects of human interaction with nature through cosmic mediation, material symbolism of bamboo, philosophical and aesthetic content of musical works and ritual and sacred practice of performance. Scientific novelty lies in identifying the process of visualization of harmonization of human consciousness with natural rhythms through the sound of the flute in Chinese painting, establishing a correlation between the regional typology of flutes and natural and climatic conditions, defining the flute sound as a universal code of cultural identity and spiritual practice. Development prospects are associated with further study of regional features of the mediative function of musical instruments in painting of various periods and schools of Chinese art.
