The article is devoted to the analysis of the transformation of cultural codes of grief as a universal socio-cultural phenomenon historically associated with funeral practices and performing key functions of social integration, psychological protection and cultural continuity. Based on the material of poetic works from various historical eras, the evolution from collective ritualized forms of expression of loss to individualized psychologized practices is traced, reflecting fundamental changes in social organization and ideological paradigms and the movement from the sacred to the profane, from the cosmocentric to the anthropocentric model, and ultimately to the postmodern simulation of grief as a purely linguistic construct in a globalized information society.
